Children's Massage
Touch is one of the first senses that develop in-vitro, and it is one of the key senses to fostering healthy, well-adjusted children and adults. Children suffer from physical strain in the same way adults do. Kids endure postural strains every day – they carry their backpacks to and from school, and then sit at a desk for up to six hours a day, returning home to sit at their computer, iPad or x-box. Children also participate in physical sports that may result in muscle strains and sports related injuries the same way an adult would. However, It is important to remember that children have more touch receptors per square centimeter than adults because of their small size, making them more sensitive to physical pain. Massage alleviates their painful muscles and joints, provides increased blood flow to improve circulation, reduces muscle imbalances and provides a soothing environment to reduce anxiety and hyperactivity. Some reports indicate that massage may also improve concentration, encourage focus, decrease aggression and possibly even increase IQ. As put by many of the children I see “It just feels so good!” Couple's Connect Have you ever asked your partner for a relieving massage, only to get the two minute rub? Learn to provide a relaxing massage to your loved ones. Couples, partners or kin can come in for a 2 hour crash course, in which you will learn a basic sequence massage to provide immediate relief to your partner when they need assistance. Each partner will be giving a 45 minute massage, in which time you will be learning proper body mechanics, communication with one another, and special techniques for the best results. Massage for Pregnant Women Pregnancy, for most women, is a joyous time of discomfort and change in the body. Massage is a gentle, non-invasive way to cope with the aches and pains of pregnancy, or simply to give yourself time to turn off and relax. This massage is done in a side lying position, with you surrounded by bolsters and pillows to ensure your comfort. Therapeutic Massage Often similar to deep tissue massage, therapeutic massage combines the best of both Swedish relaxation and deep tissue, to address particular concerns within the body. The goal of a therapeutic massage is to manage specific injuries or chronic concerns. Deep Tissue Massage Deep tissue massage is a slow massage that works to get in to the muscles of your body that lay deeper from the surface. It uses a variety of techniques to get into these deep muscles to loosen and release adhesions and built up tension. Deep tissue massage is used to correct chronic muscular imbalances, relieve persistent pain, relax the body and prevent future injuries. Deep tissue massage is often more intense, but the long term benefits generally outweigh the temporary discomfort. The key to a great deep tissue massage is communication with your massage therapist. Swedish Relaxation Massage The goal of this classic massage treatment is to relax the entire body with long, flowing strokes using light to medium pressure. Relaxation massage addresses troublesome issues related to stress, tension and muscle discomfort. The goal of relaxation massage is to increase mobility of joints, improve circulation, and ease tension whether built up over the weekend or a lifetime. Healing Jade Stone I utilize the Jade stones in my regular practice, when heat or cold is beneficial to the massage treatment. Jade, one of the oldest stones used by man, is thought to be a balancing stone, relaxing the body and aiding in the removal of toxins. The Jade Stones can be heated or cooled, providing a wonderful contrast therapy. The stones help encourage circulation in the body, support comfort during and after a treatment, and reduce inflammation in aggravated areas. Because of its composition of iron, magnesium & calcium, Jade is the only massage stone that can hold both heat and cold equally well. The combination therapy acts as a vascular flush, comparable to hydrotherapy. Jade Stone Massage, different from a standard hot stone massage, can be used as a deep therapeutic technique, or a gentle treatment. The non porous stones glide smoothly across the surface of your skin, doing as much work in one heated stroke, as a hand can do with seven. |
